Angelito Trail

The Guides were great. My son had a long week in the sun (before this trip). Near the end of the kayaking , my son had to stop because he felt ill. The guides tied his boat to theirs ,pulled him back to shore. Got him out of the boat and laid him down comfortably on the ground and attended to him for his every need. They took their time. They were very polite. Overall , very good experience.
Great tour

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. He was like a textbook, surmising the history of Puerto Rico including the Flora, Fauna, native people, European explorers to modern day politics. The trek was maybe 15 minutes through the El Yunque rainforest, every now and then stopping to teach us about the foliage. There was 4 or 5 other tour groups. Our group was the only one required to wear life jackets even if you could swim. IMO 2 hours was a little too long to stay in this area as you can't go very far along the river. Id suggest changing it to 1.30 at most. There is a rope and a couple areas to jump from which is fun. Afterward you're driven to an outdoor strip mall with restaurants, bars, and some shopping. The beach is on the other side and we got lucky with calm water there. The beach isn't very clean and there are lots of ants but this was fine as we were in the water or in the bar the whole time. Other reviews said the restaurants took up to 2 hours to serve the food. We did not experience this. We ordered fish and chicken tacos which came out in 15 min but our order was wrong, we got shrimp and chicken. We didn't realize until we started eating as the shrimp was diced up and concealed with toppings.. Not a major deal but if you have an allergy, just be extra careful. We informed the waitress kindly and nothing was done. From the bill, it was clear she just put in the wrong order which was annoying bc the shrimp was more expensive than the fish.

We also did the bio bay tour so we had 4 hours at the beach until the next departure. The drive is about an hour to biobay , we got there about 615. Bring deet mosquito spray bc you will get eaten. We sprayed after getting off the bus and didn't get bit at all but the rest of the group was dancing and slapping themselves like crazy.

The ride out is tandem, thank goodness. We are pretty good shape but having 2 people oar, we could take turns here and there so one person could relax and really appreciate the environment which is a little spooky but beautiful. Its a 3 mile return which is just enough for a little work out. It was about 8ish by the time we reached our destination. Wear water shoes and don't bring your phone. One it will get wet. Two you cannot capture the bioilluminescence on a phone. Even though the sun was gone, there's still enough light pollution to make it difficult to see the BI without a tarp. There was 1 tarp for... 5 kayaks? We took turns using the tarp, maybe a couple minutes each to try it. You have to stick your hand in the water and agitate it with the tarp. Then you'll see what looks like small sparks from a sparkler. Very cool to see but definitely very subtle. Not sure was I was expecting exactly but I thought it would be more obvious and that the lake would light up as you moved the oars. It is very subtle. All in all we enjoyed the experience and would recommend for everyone to try this once if you love adventure, nature, and a little cardio. Fitness wise, I would say you should be able to jog a mile without stopping to enjoy this. Some people on the tours were struggling which held up the entire line of kayaks. All the tours leave and return about the same time so there was kayak traffic lol. At the end you'll get a snack bag of chips and a small bottle of water. Hope this helps!
So much fun!

We had a great time. The rain forest was beautiful and our guide was very informative. Food at the beach took a long time but was delicious and worth the wait. The bioluminescence kayaking in the evening is a must do experience. First time kayaking for me and a few others. The guides were patient, informative and fun.
Great trifecta, easier than DIY

Fun all day excursion. Two hours in the rainforest, 4hrs at the beach, and then two kayaking. Hike was very easy 45min with option to swim. Beach was beautiful and protected east swimming. Kayaking to bioluminescent bay was hilarious navigating in the dark (kept crashing into other kayakers) less experienced kayakers might find it tough but manageable and will likely spend some time in the trees. Seeing the water sparkle huddled under the tarp was short but interesting, and honesty the whole experience was enjoyable and the guides great.
Not worth it - skip bio bay especially

We really loved our guide for the rain forest tour, which is why I'm giving this three stars. Had she not been so great, I would have given it less. Although they made all of the stops for the rain forest, the places they took us to were underwhelming. There were no rock slides or spectacular waterfalls. The bio bay kayaking was not worth it at all. It was a half moon, so we had to get under a tarp and there were so few bioluminescent organisms that it was even difficult to see them. Of course, as the guides said, they can't control nature but they know that any time but summer is not a good time to see the organisms (they explained that to us) and with a full or half moon (which it was). However, they are selling tickets to nature to see these things, so maybe they shouldn't run tours when it's hard to have the experience? We were truly disappointed and felt like we wasted a precious day of vacation.
