La Parguera, a small fishing village in Lajas that has reborn in recent years. Due to its geographical location it offers one of the best preserved coral reef systems and mangrove forests in the Caribbean. Various restaurants and bars add to the local attractions. We will drive for about 2 hrs (bathroom stops offered), as you enjoy the panoramic and lush views of the Central area that then changes to a semi-desert landscape. Upon arrival downtown we will stop for appetizers (additional food and beverage costs not included). Watch the sunset as we head out for a 25 minute ride thru the mangrove channels. You will have the opportunity to swim at one of it's cays, before we head out to the area where the bioluminescence happens. Your guide will explain everything you need to know about these microscopic dinoflagelates that give off heat in the form of light when disturbed. Once we reach the bay you will have the opportunity to swim (optional) and experience this phenomenon first hand.

Bucket list item checked off

The bio bay trip was a bucket list item for me for a while. The tour was my family (2 adults, 2 kids), and one other couple. I was happy with the small tour size. The bioluminescence was the neatest thing to experience. We took snorkel masks, and I’m glad we did — it looks even more vivid underwater. George and Hector were kind and entertaining. This tour was the highlight of our PR trip.

A Glowing Experience

George is a fantastic guide and we had a blast. He gave fun facts about the island throughout the ride to La Paguera/Lajas. Captain Hector was a riot and provided us with top notch treatment. The sparkle and glow of the water in the bay is otherworldly.

A sparkling adventure!

Our guide Julian was great. He seemed to really enjoy his job and was very informative. Everything was timely and the van we rode in was very nice - unlike some other tours I did. We stopped for "snacks" along the way there, but it was more like dinner in terms of the amount of food. The tacos we had for dinner were more like the snack - and they were very good. The village itself was really cool, and I would have loved to have been able to spend more time there. The bioluminescent glow was more like sparkles and a ghostly glow, which were pretty awesome. They told us the glow only looks blue in pictures. It was definitely a unique experience...fascinating, relaxing, and fun. As I told the boat captain, it was amazingly fun not to have involved rum or pirates!

Excellent Excursion

La Parguera Glowing Bioluminescent Bay Boat Tour from San Juan This was an 8 hour excursion that included a 2.5 hour ride each way to a small fishing town where we had a delicious dinner in the midst of an outdoor day party. Then we took a boat ride to a spot where we joined dozens of other boats that were anchored in 4-5 ft deep water. Music was playing from every boat and people partying and dancing on the boats and in the water. So we jumped in too! I've never experienced anything like it. Finally as it got dark we moved on to the bioluminescent bay and several jumped in to disturb the waters so we could see the sparkles. We also got an astronomical show using the skyview app on our cell phones. Julian and Hector were fantastic and the excursion was a highlight of our vacation! Well worth the money.

GOOD BUT NEEDS IMPROVEMENTS

I was really excited for this tour! However, I’m being a little generous with the 4 stars. I would give it 3.5/5 stars. Our scheduled pickup time was 2:15 & the driver arrived at like 2:45-3 p.m which was 30-45 mins after. I called like 2 or 3 times because I had no idea when the driver would come. Travelers should be made aware because it’s inconsiderate of our time. When we got to la paraguera we had 2 small tacos & a soda which were alright. The boat ride was nice however the bay did not glow that much. It looked more sparkly. Not blue at all like in the photos but it was still nice & I understand that’s not 100% controllable but it’s a bit misleading. Other than that it was a decent experience. When we got back there was music & dancing by the restaurant we ate at which was nice. May or may not do it again. Mercedes Sprinter that were picked up in was nice! Hope that helps!
